We will cover:
• The critical micronutrients for women’s health with a focus on bone health
• What role does menopause play in bone health
• Food sources of the critical micronutrients and how to adapt your favourite recipes
• Which exercises are best to help reduce your risk of osteoporosis
• Factors affecting the bioavailability of the critical micronutrients in plant-based diets
Osteoporosis causes fragile bones, leading to more time in hospital than many other major diseases. A surprising 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis.
In this nutrition talk, we hear from a Registered Nutritionist, Elaine Povey from Nutritionwise Ltd with over twenty five years’ experience of working in nutrition and dietetics. Elaine completed her degree at King’s and went onto live and work in Australia for several years at the Monash University where the low fodmaps diet originated; she has taught at Glasgow and Loughborough University and her company supports the food and hospitality industry in their training, product and recipe development. She started her clinic in East Kent for IBS, gut health and hormone issues in 2016.
During the presentation, Elaine will address common osteoporosis myths and describe why some national recommendations are outdated. Importantly, she will explain how to reduce your risk by changing your diet.
