For most of our evolutionary history, a merciless natural environment automatically did this for us: sub-zero temperatures, howling winds and hungry wolves kept our muscles and veins supple, and our minds sharp and clear.
Fast forward to today, and phones are exhausting our brains, while the rest of our body wastes away as we sit in toasty rooms strapped to stiffening chairs.
As a result, those natural defences are no longer on high alert. We fall ill more easily. We stress out, lose sleep, and wake up without focus or energy.
This fun, engaging, relaxing yet challenging workshop is led by Dan Hughes, co-founder of wellbeing brand Vitae Vi, Wim Hof Method Academy instructor and an Oxygen Advantage Breathwork coach.
Dan says: “Change can be challenging but remaining stressed, unhappy with low energy can be more so – 15-20 minutes a day is all you need, no equipment, just an open mind and a willingness to persevere. I know first-hand how illness, stress and modern-life all impact the body and mind and I can guide you towards unlocking your inner power – you are stronger than you think you are!”
Dan has a particular interest in the benefits of controlled breath, a positive mindset and gradual cold exposure to improve energy levels, control stress, improve general health and provide you with simple tools to use in your every-day life to become strong, happy & healthy; all backed up by strong science.
This interactive workshop, focused around the Wim Hof Method is a simply followed, natural path to an optimal state of mind & body.
The Wim Hof Method trains your nervous, cardio-vascular and immune systems to become more robust, better prepared and provides ‘life force’ energy and natural systems balance to enable you to tackle the stresses of daily life, whatever they may be – emotional, physical or physiological.
The principles of the Wim Hof Method
The principles of the Wim Hof Method are centered around three pillars of breathwork, mindset and cold exposure.
Breathwork
In the main, we have all become very lazy breathers to the detriment of our health. The workshop and guided WHM breathwork will help you understand how to breathe properly and the cascade of advantages breathing well brings.
When we breathe properly there are huge benefits, including a lot more energy, reduced fatigue, stress resilience and a turbo-charged immune system. Breathing out the waste carbon dioxide alkalises the blood to create a balanced environment for all our body systems.
Cold Exposure
Exposure to cold is the second pillar of the WHM. Safe and gradual exposure to the cold flicks a switch to start a waterfall of benefits to your health.
These benefits include reduced inflammation, a boosted immune system, improved sleep, conversion of white fat to brown adipose tissue, which over time, results in weight loss and a huge dose of ‘feel-good’ endorphins and hormones that stabilise your mood and make you feel great for days!
Commitment
The glue that binds the other pillars together is commitment. In order to get the benefits of the Wim Hof Method, you need a little patience, some dedication and commitment – afterall, getting into a cold shower, or finding time in our busy lives to consciously breathe, needs some mental fortitude.
The mental power and focus learnt during the Wim Hof Method will serve you well in other parts of your life – if you can get into an ice bath, you can do anything – right?
The benefits of the Wim Hof Method
The many benefits of the Wim Hof Method include:
• Anti-inflammatory (both chronic and acute)
• Alleviate the symptoms of depression, fatigue and chronic pain
• Robust immune system and faster recovery
• Stronger cardio-vascular system
• Optimised lung health
• Stronger will-power
• More energy & life-force
• Balanced emotions and peace of mind
• Better sleep
• Greater stress resilience and less anxiety
• Heightened determination
• Greater cold tolerance in the cooler months
• Increased metabolism
• Better concentration and focus
• Lower pain perception through endorphin release
• Heightened body awareness
• Connection with our body, each other and nature
• Periods of total bliss, gratitude and peace
