Yeo Tat-Soon | Harpsichordist
This concert offers intriguing pairings of visual art and music, each revealing unique historical connections. Highlights include a portrait of Madame de Pompadour by François Boucher alongside a piece by her court composer Pancrace Royer; a portrait of composer Anne-Jeanne Boucon by Maurice de La Tour, paired with musical portraits of her by Jacques Duphly and Jean-Baptiste Barrière; and a medieval manuscript depicting Guillaume Dufay and Gilles Binchois, accompanied by keyboard arrangements of their chansons.
The programme also features a fresco by Renaissance artist and art historian Giorgio Vasari, set against music by Handel and Scarlatti, who famously competed in a musical duel in the very same Roman palazzo nearly two centuries later.
