Wedding Testimonials

"My husband and I absolutely loved our wedding day. If it wasn’t for my husbands American family coming over from the States we might have gone for a smaller wedding – but we’re so glad we made this choice & made it so special given it’s likely to be the only time both of our families would come together in full. We chose the Crescent on account of it being an hour from Sheffield (where we live), a beautiful hotel with great spa facilities for those who want to stay/enjoy a spa trip, but also it’s surrounded by b&bs/other cheaper hotels for any budget as required. For the American family, it was great for them to see the gorgeous town of Buxton & impressive architecture of the Crescent. The Assembly Room was the majority of the event takes place is truly stunning & gives a wow factor when you see the room. It also doesn’t need loads of “dressing” if you want to keep it simple/don’t want to spend budget for loads of décor.

Nicole (wedding coordinator) was fabulous from the start, really helpful, informative, professional & quick to respond to any queries. We first came to look at the hotel a few years before the wedding took place – due to extensive house renovation work we ended up pushing back the provisional date twice before finally making the booking and confirming the spot. Given the time difference, the team were very fair in re-evaluating the pricing for us so it wasn’t a huge jump. The food options on the day were fabulous, we had a 3 course meal for the wedding breakfast and a buffet in the evening which all went down well, all dietary reqs were catered for with ease. We had a champagne reception after the ceremony & extra his & hers cocktails for the drinks reception after the meal which weren’t cheap but were very good (whiskey sour & bramble cocktails). One slight critique is there was only 1 person on the bar downstairs so there was a bit of a wait at times for people to get drinks to re-join the party. It didn’t distract from the day though. Other elements were very easy to arrange between suppliers, on the day whilst getting ready I didn’t have to worry or look at my phone once. The wedding suite was beautiful & a good size considering I had 5 adult bridesmaids & 2 flower girls under 5 all in there for hair & makeup! There was enough space & the room backdrop makes for beautiful photos like the rest of the hotel. All in all we were really impressed with the hotel & all of their support in hosting our wedding. Nicole is an asset to the team & felt more like one of the party than a supplier so huge thanks to her & the team she handed over to on the day itself. Value for money is hard to comment on given everyone’s view of value is different, but I’d say it definitely met the luxury, classic, sophisticated aesthetic & service without the cost associated with a celebrity/exclusive venue like a Middleton Lodge or Grantley Hall option.

After the day my husband & I stayed an extra night, made full use of the freestanding bath in the room & spa facilities to unwind then left the day after. Looking back on it now I really wouldn’t have had it any other way & wish I could re-live it."

How did you both meet and how did the proposal occur?
"Sam and I met on Tinder in 2019, and from the very first moment, it felt like love at first sight. Fast forward to one unforgettable day at the Orchid Festival at Kew Gardens—Sam had planned something truly magical. Under the banana tree in the Palm House, he completely surprised me by getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him. I was utterly speechless—but of course, I said yes! To celebrate, we whisked ourselves off to New York for an incredible trip, capped with seeing Elton John perform at Madison Square Garden. It was the perfect start to this exciting new chapter of our lives!"

What did you love most about the Buxton Crescent hotel?
"Sam has fond memories of visiting Buxton as a child, and it quickly became a special place for us during trips to see his family in Manchester. We’d often stop by for a local pint, and it didn’t take long for the town to capture our hearts. For me, growing up in Bath, the crescent in Buxton felt like a little piece of home. The hotel soon became our favourite spot for a weekend escape, full of charm and memories. So, when we got engaged, there was no doubt in our minds—Buxton was the perfect place to say “I do.”"

Did you have a theme or a particular style for your day?
"We envisioned our wedding day as florals, of love and the union of our two families. Inspired by the elegance of Bridgerton, we incorporated romantic florals, and a wedding cake adorned with personal touches, including our adorable custom cake toppers and a whimsical wedding newspaper. Every detail was thoughtfully chosen to reflect our personalities and make the day feel authentically "us.""

Tell us about the dress...
"It was the very first dress I tried on—and it felt perfect for the venue. The delicate touches of pearls on my veil beautifully matched the necklace Sam gifted me the night before the wedding, making it all the more special."

Other than saying 'I do', what was the most unforgettable moment from the day?
"Our close friend Cressida, a professional sabreur, added a spectacular touch to the evening by welcoming our guests with a dramatic champagne sabrageat the front of the crescent. It created unforgettable memories and made for some truly fantastic photos!"

What’s the best advice you would give to couples who are about to tie the knot at the Buxton Crescent?
"Make full advantage of the stunning venue for your photos—we did a mix of portraits and candid shots, and the results were breathtaking. With its photogenic charm both inside and out, this venue guarantees incredible photos you’ll treasure forever!"

And finally, we would love to hear about your experience with the Buxton Crescent
"We wish we could relive it all—it was truly the most amazing experience! The team was absolutely fantastic, going above and beyond to help bring our dream wedding to life. We couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you – thank you from the bottom of our hearts!"

And finally, we would love to hear about your experience with the Buxton Crescent
"The day of wedding was amazing, and we can put that down to James Turner –Operations Manager, who ran the day for us. Nothing was too much for him, the day before our wedding he spent the time walking us through the day reassuring us that everything would go to plan and offering to help with anything he could. On the day of our wedding, he came to see both me and James and was so warm and welcoming. He ran the day perfectly, nothing was too much, even last-minute changes on the day he sorted. We can’t thank him enough for making our day the most special day that me and my husband have ever had."

How did you both meet and how did the proposal occur?
"We are both landscape architects and met at work in Manchester. We got engaged at one of our favourite gardens, Trebah in Cornwall, amongst the valley of hydrangeas. It was the perfect location and time for us."

What did you love most about the Buxton Crescent hotel?
"Everything!!! The beautiful setting and heritage architecture of the Crescent and the interior of the Assembly Rooms, the care and professionalism of all the staff, having accommodation and the spa on site and access to the amazing bridal suite facilities. We have lived locally for many years and have been able to watch the renovations develop and come to fruition over that time, so getting married here was extremely special to us. When Nicole showed us around for the first time, we were blown away by the Assembly Room and its approach."

Did you have a theme or a particular style for your day?
"We took precedents from Trebah Gardens, the Crescent and the Assembly Room colours and incorporated these elements into our floral displays, stationery and room dressing. Rachel at Renn Floristry in the Crescent was absolutely outstanding and made our dreams come to fruition. The suits also reflected the Georgian period of the building."

Tell us about the dress...
"The dress was an A line princess style gown by the designer Kenneth Winston. I bought the dress from a beautiful bridal boutique in Bakewell called Rosaria Amore. Libby Stoppard was an absolute angel and couldn’t do enough for me. It was encrusted with pearls and sparkles and was the essence of me as a person. I had a sparkle encrusted cathedral length veil, with blusher which I absolutely loved wearing."

Other than saying 'I do', what was the most unforgettable moment from the day?
"Walking into the Assembly Rooms with all our guests waiting!!"

"From start to finish the team could not do enough for us. Louise and her team helped us along the way with every detail and made our wedding vision into a reality. I felt like a princess in a palace for the day, and that is all you could wish for as a bride.

James and Chloe and their team were so excellent during the day and helped everything run smoothly. If you are considering your wedding at the Crescent, do not hesitate. You will not be disappointed. You will have a reliable, friendly, professional team with you every step of the way, and you will have treasured memories for the rest of your life. We wish we could do it all over again!"

How did you both meet and how did the proposal occur?
"We met in a bar in Chesterfield through a mutual friend and immediately hit it off, chatting for the rest of the evening and planned our first date.
The proposal happened whilst we were on a road trip holiday around Scotland. We were Fort Augustus at the time staying in a cabin on Loch Ness, we had just been out on canoe and were enjoying the sunset by the pier. Nick asked me to sit looking out at the Loch to take a picture and when I turned around, he was on one knee! It was a beautifully tranquil and intimate setting for such a special moment."

What did you love most about the Buxton Crescent hotel?
"We adored the aesthetic of the building from both inside and out! Buxton is a place we visit frequently as it is between Chesterfield and Macclesfield where we are both from, so it felt perfect to have our wedding day there."

Did you have a theme or a particular style for your day?
"We love our old-style music and jazz bars, so we really wanted to bring a Jazz/Swing vibe that oozed elegance throughout the day."

Tell us about the dress...
"My dress was a simple, elegant and modern, it was very fitted with a long train, buttons all the way down the back and an off the shoulder style top. My veil had a lot of beading and lace detailing that sat on the back of the train of the dress to bring some additional detailing to the whole dress."

Other than saying 'I do', what was the most unforgettable moment from the day?
"The speeches were a highlight for us in particular the best man who put on a show for us and the guests!"

What’s the best advice you would give to couples who are about to tie the knot at the Buxton Crescent?
"We would say to other couples, make sure you have pictures on the slopes to have the backdrop of the crescent. We did this with our photographer after dinner as the sun was setting and these are some of our favourite photos!"

And finally, we would love to hear about your experience with the Buxton Crescent

James in particular did a fantastic job on the day of keeping everything in order and getting the guests fired up as we entered the room for the wedding breakfast.
