The best relaxation podcasts

Aid your wellbeing

To aid our wellbeing, it is important to take a step back from our busy lives and de-stress and unwind every now and again. There are a number of ways we can help our body and mind relax and one of those is by listening to a relaxing podcast.

There are thousands of podcasts being released every day and a number of them are designed to help us de-stress and focus on what’s important in life. A soothing podcast is a perfect way to allow our brains to unwind and de-stress after a busy period, something everyone should allow themselves time to do now and again. In this article, we talk about some of the best relaxation podcasts for those looking to unplug life and plug-in their headphones.

The Mindful Kind by Rachael Kable

Rachel Kable resealed her podcast The Mindful Kind in 2015 and it soon hit the big time heading to number 7 in the Australian iTunes charts after just a month. Holding a Bachelor in Psychological Science and Certificate in Coaching and Counselling the podcast was created as a platform for her to share her personal stories and experiences with mindfulness. In the hope to help people manage their stress and improve their wellbeing, she released the podcast into the world, speaking about topics from relaxation to mindfulness.

We spoke to Rachel who explained a little more about her journey and some of her favourite relaxation podcasts:

“Podcasts are wonderful resources that can empower people with relaxation skills, tips and ideas. Podcasts are easily accessible via platforms like Spotify and iTunes and generally provide quality information from experts for free. Not only are listeners able to learn from great podcasts, but the podcast hosts become familiar - almost like listening to a friend. This can have a wonderful, calming effect and help people feel less alone.

“I launched my podcast, The Mindful Kind, in late 2015 and I've been recording weekly ever since. Two popular episodes about relaxation include How to Relax and Be Mindful (episode 179) and Self-Care Ideas for Relaxation (episode 123).”

A Little Peace of Mind by Nicola Bird

After having found a way through her own debilitating anxiety and panic attacks, Nicola Bird decided to release her podcast A Little Peace of Mind to share the simple understanding about how human beings really work that proved so transformative to her own life and those of her clients.

Weekly discussions about peace of mind, people’s experiences and revelations about what made a difference for them, no breathing exercises, visualisation or monitoring, just listen and watch your own mind quieten.

Nicola spoke to us about her experiences with podcasts: “Often people email me and say 'I was listening to your podcast but I always fall asleep!’ as if that's a problem - so here's what I explain to them, When you're listening to something that quiets your busy, whirring mind, there's a deeper wiser part of you that kicks in. And because most of us live in such speedy thinking all of the time, we are exhausted. We think we need the content on the podcast, our wisdom knows that sleep is what's really required.”

We spoke to Lizzie Benton who blogs at Lizaboo, she recommended Sleepy as a podcast for those looking to practise mindfulness: “Podcasts are a wonderful way of getting your brain away from the worries of the day. Rather than ruminating on anxieties you can distract your mind with something that is peaceful and calming. I think much of it goes back to when we were children being read bedtime stories. There's something relaxing and calming about listening to someone else's voice and hearing a good story.

“To get to sleep I love listening to Sleepy by Otis Gray. He reads you classic bedtime stories to help you fall asleep. It's became  my go-to, especially as he reads my childhood favourites such as Peter Pan and Wind in the Willows.”
