Our Living With Type 2 Diabetes Day Retreat offers positive lifestyle-based approaches that combine regular moderate exercise, good nutrition and a balanced outlook on modern life.The programme delivered by DESMOND educators begins at 8:30 am and consists of 6 hrs of interactive learning to help you live and manage diabetes when returning home. Our experts will be on hand to demonstrate that medication, though vitally important, is not the only solution. They will highlight practical solutions to help improve your overall health and maintain a positive approach to your condition.
They will also help you understand diabetes in more detail, to manage weight and blood sugar through diet, give exercise tips to get you more active and take home an action plan so benefits can be continued & enhanced beyond your day. You’ll also enjoy a nutritiously balanced lunch. You will then have time to enjoy the spa facilities and or activity classes at the resort or treat yourself to a well-deserved spa treatment and the exclusive 20% discount on Champneys own pre booked spa treatmentsThe retreat is also suitable for those that have been told that they are at risk of developing diabetes. Please note that you can also book personal nutrition consultations, fitness evaluations, personal training sessions and meditation classes for additional costs, all of which have been designed to compliment. We also offer at Champneys Tring Diabetic Reviews through our Medical & Wellbeing Centre.Please note: All Diabetes retreat participants must take responsibility to have a complete full check up with a recognised hospital or medical clinic with doctor’s written clearance to engage in the retreat including physical activity if there are concerns and outline any risk factors we need to be aware of. About DESMONDDESMOND is an NHS programme developed by the Leicester Diabetes Centre which teaches people with Type 2 diabetes how to manage their condition and is delivered by more than 90 NHS trusts. It is the gold standard in Type 2 diabetes education and includes self-management education modules, toolkits and care pathways for people with, or at risk of, Type 2 diabetes. Most DESMOND programmes are delivered in a group to increase healthcare professional contact time and also encourage positive interactions between group membersDid you know? It is estimated that more than one in 16 people in the UK has diabetes (diagnosed or undiagnosed). Type 2 diabetes accounts for between 85 and 95 per cent of all people with diabetes and is treated with a healthy diet and increased physical activity.Bernie Stribling, of Director of DESMOND, said: “Structured education programmes are a proven method to enable supported self-care in diabetes. There is a minimum number of people required for the break to run. Breaks will be cancelled if numbers are insufficient 2 weeks before the start of the break.
