Healthy Gut Healthy Body is a unique, cutting edge programme incorporating the best available products and expertise, enjoyed within the unrivalled serenity and luxury of Champneys surroundings.
Based on recent scientific evidence improving digestive health through resetting the gut microbiome is the foundation for enabling all other systems in our body to recover, rebalance & revive. This 5 night kick start will help you to address your diet and lifestyle, in turn striving towards your body and mind working in synergy.
This short term retreat can bring about long term benefits in health, weight, sleep and energy levels. We encourage relaxation as part of the break as digestion functions optimally when we eat at rest rather than under stress. We’ll provide you with practical mindful eating tips which help the body to maximize nutrient assimilation and aid in the elimination of toxins and waste.
What is the microbiome?
The microbiome is the unique collection of microbes ( bacteria, fungi and other microflora) living in and on our body, consisting of around 100 trillion cells, the highest concentration of which is in our gut. The 1.5 kilos of microbes we carry around inside us have been scientifically proven to affect our weight, physical health, emotional and mental wellbeing.
The gut microbiome suffers due to toxic environments, nutrient-stripped foods, and a stressful, sedentary lifestyle. This suffering results in an unhealthy balance of good and bad microbes, which ultimately impacts every system in the body.
Recent discoveries from leading scientific researchers have found that the state of our gut bacteria is not only the key to weight loss but also could lead to better mood, immunity and skin health.
Systemic benefits extend beyond digestive health and this retreat would be ideal for anyone suffering with:
Food & Nutrition
Our Healthy Gut, Healthy Body regime is not a fasting plan, we believe in ‘eating to thrive, not to deprive’. The programme is based around a largely plant based diet of healing and healthy vegetables and fruits, proteins, legumes and essential fats to allow the digestive system to rest and heal. We encourage microbiome-friendly foods and banish gut damaging foods such as refined carbohydrates, caffeine and alcohol.

Testimonial from a guest on the November 2017 break at Champneys Forest Mere:
"My Healthy Gut Healthy Body retreat was my first ever visit to Champneys, and indeed my first ever stay in any Health Spa. It was a most wonderful experience and I think many people would gain greatly from it if they embrace and participate fully in 'all' elements of the retreat. My only criticism is that I have felt very lost and unsure what combination of foods to eat going forward. It is a stark alteration from my usual sandwiches, pizzas and pastas!! Working long hours in an office means the lunch menus from the retreat simply don't work in day to day life and even dinners are proving a little challenging. Perhaps a sheet of suggested combinations or simply a 'do's & don'ts' list might help future guests?" Sarah
