The top beauty treatments for brides this summer

Bride

The wedding season is in full swing, and if this summer is all about your special day, you’ll probably be thinking about preparing yourself so that you’re looking and feeling your best. In the run-up to your wedding, there are various beauty treatments to make you feel amazing on the day. Don’t leave it to the morning of your wedding – ensure that you go into the experience feeling prepared and relaxed so that you can simply enjoy making memories. Claire McGowran, Editor of Bridal Musings, says: “When I got married, I really indulged in pre-wedding pampering, in the months ahead of my wedding I was all about the regular manis, facials, body oils and hair masks. It's definitely the part of wedding planning I miss the most!

So, if you’re a bride getting married this summer, make the most of this opportunity to indulge with these top beauty spa treatments.

Massage

Massage

Massage might not immediately spring to mind as a beauty treatment, but you would be surprised at the many benefits that a massage treatment can offer. Claire recommends:

“I think every bride or groom should invest in a pre-wedding massage. Even the most chilled out couples can get overwhelmed and stressed in the lead up to their big day, and a full body, or at the very least head, neck and shoulder, massage will not only relieve all that tension, but it will leave you looking and feeling more happy and relaxed on your wedding day. It might just improve your posture for the wedding pics too.”

If you’ve been nursing a few aches and pains from sitting at the computer researching venues, caterers and the rest, a massage will leave you feeling supple and comfortable. Massages also boost circulation, improving the brightness of the skin and reducing the appearance of cellulite. If you’re looking for a holistic massage, aromatherapy treatments are a great choice as essential oils offer therapeutic benefits for body and mind, while Swedish massage relieves muscle tension.

Manicures and Pedicures

Bridal manicure

Another treatment Claire advises brides to try before a wedding is a pedicure. She says: “Of course, you want your feet looking gorgeous in your new wedding shoes, but a good quality pedicure makes you feel really polished and elegant too.” Both manicures and pedicures are an element not to be overlooked in wedding beauty preparations.  Whilst people may rarely look at our hands and feet in great detail, on your wedding day every detail is part of the overall look. As you carry your bouquet and walk down the aisle, you will feel sleeker if your hands and feet are groomed to tie the look together. Whether you decide to go for a colour that will complement your scheme or a simple French manicure, this is a small detail that can make a big difference on the day.

Facials

Facial

One of the most popular treatments that we see brides booking are facials and skincare treatments. You’re sure to be glowing on the day regardless due to pure happiness, but a good skincare regime in the weeks leading up to the day can help boost it even more.

Her World Plus advises: “Make sure you cleanse, tone and moisturise your skin twice a day (morning and evening) and ensure all make-up is completely removed from your skin at night, to prevent clogged pores. If you are not satisfied with your current skincare routine, visit your local beauty salon or dermatologist before your wedding day. If you are thinking of trying new skincare products, ensure you test them out weeks before your wedding in case they don’t suit your skin”.

If you’re not sure exactly what you need to be doing to achieve your skincare aims, visit a specialist for a facial. Whilst you’re enjoying the blissful experience of having a nutrient-rich mask applied to your skin, or having your face expertly massaged, you can also learn about your skin type and what you can do to achieve that perfect look on your wedding day. Facials will reinvigorate the face with vitality, plumping, lifting and deeply nourishing the skin.

Exfoliation

Exfoliation

Why not give yourself that silky-soft skin feeling all over by booking in for a pre-wedding exfoliation session? Body treatments are hugely popular with beauty-conscious brides, whether for clearing the skin or slimming. Whilst at-home body scrubs are great for buffing away dry skin, there’s nothing like an in-spa exfoliation treatment to make your skin impossibly soft and supple. A full-body exfoliation will remove dead skin cells and boost the circulation, leaving your skin conditioned and glowing from head to toe. Combine with a full body massage to soothe your muscles and tone the skin.

Body wraps

Body wraps

Once you’ve buffed away the dry skin remnants of the winter, it’s time to get your skin deeply nourished. A fantastic way to do this is with a body wrap. These treatments are popular around the world – as Anshita from the beauty blog, Vanity No Apologies, comments, “Brides in India go for haldi pack (turmeric and chickpea flour mixed into rose water) all over their body for a bright warm glow.”

If you’ve never heard of this treatment, it is essentially a deep-conditioning moisturising treatment where nutrients from a body butter or essential oil are locked in with a wrap. First, any dry skin is removed with a dry brush or exfoliation, and then the mask is applied to the skin. Relax for around twenty minutes as the mask or oil is wrapped in plastic and you are covered with a towel to let the minerals and vitamins soak in. Afterwards, your therapist massages in the remaining product, giving you a conditioned glow that will last for days.

Eyebrow tinting

Eyebrow tinting

A natural eyebrow look is firmly in fashion at the moment, but for many of us, working out the best shape to complement our features can be tricky. If you’re usually someone who shapes and fills in their eyebrows at home, before your wedding is the perfect time to get them professionally tinted. This is a treatment that Danielle Moss from the beauty and fashion blog, The Every Girl, highly recommends. She says:

“I'm getting married in Paris this fall and plan on having my eyebrows tinted and waxed the day before I leave. My brows aren't naturally full, and tinting them completely transforms my face. People often neglect their brows but a great arch and tint can make a huge difference.”

With a professional eyebrow tinting treatment, you are guaranteed to have perfectly-shaped and filled eyebrows on the day of your wedding, meaning less makeup to worry about as you get ready in the morning!

Eyelash extensions

Eyelash extensions

Another treatment that can dramatically reduce the pressure of getting ready on the morning of your big day are eyelash extensions. Rather than having to fiddle around with false lashes that may feel heavy or come unstuck halfway through the day, eyelash extensions are a lasting treatment with no fuss involved.

Generally speaking, these extensions last around two weeks, so, as Anshita points out, this is a brilliant way to look good on your honeymoon without having to try too much. Choose from either a natural appearance or a fuller look to make a real statement. You might not need to flutter your eyelashes to get your groom’s attention on the special day, but long, full eyelashes will certainly make your look even more stunning.

Hair treatments

Hair treatments

Up or down, straight or curly, there are a lot of decisions to be made when it comes to wedding-day hair. However, one thing you can be sure of is that you want your hair to be voluminous, silky and smooth. Ahead of your wedding, consider a deep conditioning treatment to make your hair strong, shiny and full. Our Silky Locks Long Hair treatment offers a revitalising scalp massage, a tension-relieving hand and arm massage, plus intensive conditioning treatments for your hair. At the end of it all, enjoy a blow dry to make you feel completely fabulous.

There are also other hair treatments you can consider for that extra oomph on your wedding day. Danielle says: “I have very fine hair and added clip-in extensions in a wedding last year, and they gave me a gorgeous up-do I never would have had. Even if your hair isn't that fine, they'll make it look so much fuller day-of.” Whether you choose extensions or just rock your natural hair, ensuring it is in perfect condition will make you look flawless on the day of your wedding.

These treatments are all about making you feel your best before a day that you will remember for the rest of your life, so it’s important to choose treatments that are right for you. As Claire concludes: “There's nothing more important than feeling good to make you radiant, confident and gorgeous as you walk up the aisle.”
