Increase intake of fibre: Focus on soluble types of fibre such as oats, fruits, vegetables, barley, flaxseed, dried beans and lentils, which are gentler on supporting your digestive system.

5 a day: Ensure you eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables each day.

Eat your greens: Make sure you get plenty of dark green leafy vegetables such as broccoli, spinach, cabbage, watercress rocket, and kale.

Berry nice: Try to eat a portion of dark coloured berries a day as they are packed with vitamins, minerals and fibre.

Hydrate: Drink at least 2 litres of water daily. Eat plenty of garlic: Garlic has natural antimicrobial properties and helps support the growth of the friendly bacteria in your gut.

Reduce wheat and dairy:  Try some alternatives such as oatcakes, Ryvita, rye bread, rice cakes,  porridge or oat based cereals.
