Glucose Screening

There are two types of diabetes and 2.6 million people in the UK and an estimated further 500,000 people have the disease but haven’t yet been diagnosed. Fortunately diabetes can easily be diagnosed with a simple blood test and if caught early, can often be treated by changing to a more healthy diet.

There are two types of diabetes that can occur;
Type 1 diabetes; this is where the pancreas stops producing Insulin. This can occur at any age but is more common in younger people, symptoms include an increase in thirst and hunger and passing excessive amounts of urine.

Type 2 diabetes is more common in the over 50 age group. In this case the pancreas gradually produces less insulin, and the insulin that is produced stops working properly. Worryingly, in this type of diabetes there are often no symptoms in the early stages and by the time it is diagnosed, damage may have already been done to the kidneys, eyes, heart and other organs.
