Meet The Bloggers
Stephen Purdew
Stephen Purdew is a Director & Co-Owner of Champneys Group. At the age of 21, Stephen stepped in to assist in the family business for just a couple of weeks and it was a move that would prove permanent. Today, Stephen manages the entire group and has been a pivotal force in its growth, development and success. An avid Arsenal supporter, Stephen has a young family, and a lovely teenage son called Robert who lives in Australia. When not immersed in the world of Champneys, Stephen loves to spend time between his homes in the UK and South of France, and Champneys ski chalet called Hotel de la Paix in Switzerland, where he enjoys skiing with family and friends.
Mrs Dorothy Purdew OBE
Mrs Dorothy Purdew OBE is the lady behind the great Champneys brand. In 1970 Mrs Purdew opened her first slimming club which led to over 100 clubs opening. In 1981 Henlow Grange was purchased, followed by Springs, Forest Mere and then Tring in 2002. With a business that has led the changes in the spa industry and a keen interest in supporting charities, Mrs Purdew has also been recognised by the Queen in the 2008 birthday honours list with an OBE for services to the Health Spa Industry and Charity. A formidable character with a sharp sense of humour, Mrs Purdew remains passionate about Champneys, she still takes part in our annual charity bike ride and is regularly seen at all four resorts happily catching up with staff and guests alike.
Louise Day
Louise Day is our fabulous fitness expert who heads up the Fitness and Wellbeing team and continually creates inspiring and innovative fitness breaks and programmes. Whether an experienced athlete or someone who wants to start a new regime, Louise makes fitness at Champneys fun and suitable for all. From Yoga and Personal Trainers, to nutritionists and cycling professionals, Louise’s bubbly personality and love of fitness draws leading professionals to continually bring of the moment trends to Champneys. Louise also co-ordinates Regenerate, the country’s leading luxury residential and non-residential Medical Centre based at Champneys Tring Health Resort.
Jo Parker
Jo is Champneys Spa Director. Knowledgeable and passionate, Jo is responsible for product and treatment development which involves predicting spa trends and creating new product ranges, which has included many award-winning skincare and bodycare products over the years. After studying beauty therapy and passing her C.I.B.T.A.C, I.T.E.C and C.I.D.E.S.C.O exams with Distinction (as well as receiving received a ‘student of the year’ award) Jo traveled the world and discovered a taste for global spa therapies after visiting countries such as India, Thailand, Australia, The Pacific Islands to name but a few! Jo joined Champneys in 1998 and is today just as passionate about the development of the Champneys brand and oversees every new product and treatment that is available today.
Rebecca Healey
Rebecca Healey is our Marketing Manager for Champneys Day Spas – and with eight of them she’s busy! One of her main goals is to ensure the Day Spa stories are communicated to the local and national press. She is the point of contact for creative promotional ideas, advertising, competition prizes and celebrity and press visits and also heads up the events team, working hard to think of new exciting ways in which to develop our events, from getting great guest speakers to improving the wine that’s available on the night! Working closely with the graphics department, Rebecca manages the promotions and print for the Day Spas ensuring we keep within our brand guidelines.
Dr Michael Curtin
Dr Michael Curtin is our Medical Director at Regenerate and is based within the fine surrounds of Champneys Tring. A fully qualified doctor with 21 years experience in General Practice, he is also an expert in complementary medicine with a keen interest in Acupuncture which he now uses the latest techniques for treating women with fertility problems.
Gary Foster
Gary Foster is Head Chef at Champneys Forest Mere and has a fantastic career background working at some of London’s best hotels including the Hilton Park Lane, and with celebrity chef Gary Rhodes at the Greenhouse restaurant in Mayfair and the Royal Festival Hall. Joining Champneys in 1998, Gary has been with us ever since, creating a delicious menu from as much local produce as possible, as well as home-grown fruit, veg and herbs from the kitchen garden at Forest Mere. When he’s not trying out new recipes, Gary catches up with his three daughters….a very busy man indeed!
Magalie Papageorge
As Champneys dedicated nutritionist, Magalie works closely with our chefs to create the nutritious food that is served at Champneys. Magalie uses her expertise to inform and inspire guests about the importance of eating well.
